Annual Safety Inspection (Aug. 27 – Oct. 5)

Beginning on August 27, 2024, we will be entering apartments between 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. to perform our annual safety inspection. During this inspection we will:

  • Change the furnace filter
  • Change smoke/CO detector batteries
  • Replace Fire Extinguishers 
  • Inspect Water Heaters
  • Toilet tanks flapper replacement
  • Perform general apartment conditions inspection

 The inspection will take about 15-20 minutes and a completion notice will be left if you are not present. Staff may take pictures of conditions needing attention or of items found in violation of policies while in the unit.

You do not have to be present.

 Please move any items that might be blocking locked utility closets, the furnace cold air return grill or the floor area underneath any smoke detectors (hallways, bedrooms, living rooms.)

 

  • If you have an accommodation animal, please plan to be present or take the animal out for a walk during inspection. All animals, including cats, must be placed in crates/carriers. Leaving unattended animals in the apartment without doing so will result in rescheduling and be considered a violation of the residential code of conduct. If we find maintenance issues requiring attention, we will return at a later date to correct them. You may also submit a work order via https://maintenance.housing.berkeley.edu/

 As always, we can cover shoes when entering, upon request.

 Our goal is to complete these required inspections before the midterm season. Therefore, your flexibility and support of this required annual inspection is very important.
