Academic Support

Academic and community spaces

University Village study centers

The Graduate Study Center (GSC) and the Academic Study Center (ASC) both offer a dedicated, quiet academic environment for current UC Berkeley undergraduate and graduate students. Access is permitted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, via the resident’s apartment key, except during necessary programs and events or maintenance and custodial operations.

These spaces are equipped with wireless internet access, study tables, and group seating.

  • Designated use: These centers are intended strictly for academic study. Adults utilizing these centers with or without minors must ensure the space is being used solely for its designated purpose.
  • Locations: The study centers are located at units 136-787 and 160-105.

Usage policies for University Village study centers

  • Eligibility: Use is restricted to current residents of The Village, with priority designated for enrolled UC Berkeley students.
  • Prohibited conduct: To maintain a focused study atmosphere, residents must adhere to the following:
    • No consumption of food or beverages.
    • No (loud) cellular phone conversations.
    • No viewing of inappropriate or unauthorized materials.
  • Minor supervision: Minors (persons under 18 years old) are not permitted to occupy the space unless accompanied and supervised by an eligible resident adult.

Family Resource Center (FRC)

The Family Resource Center is located in the East Village at apartment 123-456. It serves as a communal space designed to foster interaction among Village families. It houses both the community and children’s libraries. While residents may utilize the space for study, it is not designated as a “study zone.” In fact, the Family Resource Center frequently hosts community events, including game nights, dinners, and support groups.

Additional Notes:

  • Minor supervision: Minors (persons under 18 years old) are not permitted in the Family Resource Center unaccompanied.
  • Reservations: The Family Resource Center may only be reserved for Graduate & Family Living events. Residents may utilize the space on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot make advanced reservations for personal use.
