Campus Safety Resources

- Learn how to be an active bystander and help keep the campus safe by visiting the Bears that CARE website. You can also request workshops led by peer educators.
- Download the UC Berkeley Safety App. UC Berkeley Safety is a free safety app that sends WarnMe alerts and provides instant access to campus safety resources. You can download the UC Berkeley Safety App (Apple/ Android) and turn on notifications to receive WarnMe alerts.
Property Safety Tips
Property theft is the most-reported crime on college campuses.
- Always take your valuables with you, even if stepping away briefly.
- If you cannot take your belongings, secure them with a sturdy lock or other reliable method.
- Secure the windows/doors and either lock up or take valuables home with you when leaving your office/lab.
- Lock the doors and close the windows when leaving your residence.
- When leaving your car, take valuables with you or secure them out of sight or in the trunk, lock your doors/close your windows, and park in well-lit areas when possible.
- Secure your e-scooters properly using durable locks.
- Report any suspicious activity near scooters or bike racks immediately.
Personal Safety Tips
- Place electronics, cell phones, and other valuables out of sight while out and about.
- Travel in a group if possible and stay in well-lit, well-traveled areas.
- Utilize free security services such as night safety shuttles and Safewalk whenever possible.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Set passwords on your electronic devices to protect your information.
- Consider using tracking software to aid in locating your devices.
- Avoid resisting the demands of the thief or pursuing them.
- Be cautious of online “Phishing” scams attempting to solicit personal identifying information or defraud you of money. Stay alert and protect yourself.
About WarnMe messages
WarnMe messages – We also want to provide some additional information about these messages:
- The campus is required by federal law (the Clery Act) to notify the campus community when certain crimes that could pose a serious or ongoing threat to the campus are reported on or near campus property or if there is an immediate threat to the health and safety of the campus community.
- These messages are sent out to every berkeley.edu email address.
- To receive UC Berkeley WarnMe emergency notifications via SMS/text message if you have a CalNET ID, you may register your mobile phone number here. If you do not have a CalNET ID, please text ‘WARNME’ to 67283 from your mobile device. Text messages are not sent for every incident.
- Legitimate WarnMe messages will never direct you to a login page or ask for personal information.
